McDowelll County man convicted of drug crime

McDOWELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) – A McDowell County man will serve two years and six months in prison for federal drug crimes, the Department of Justice announced. The announcement was made on October 15 by the Ministry of Justice. (DOJ)

The DOJ said the convicted man is 44-year-old Lansen Sharif Waugh of Kyle, McDowell County. According to court documents and court affidavits, on June 15, 2021, Waugh sold controlled substances containing cocaine and methamphetamine to a confidential informant at a home in Kyle.

The DOJ said Waugh admitted to the sale, and also admitted twice to selling cocaine and a controlled substance containing heroin and fentanyl to the confidential informant.

On July 2, 2021, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Waugh’s home and found two firearms and additional amounts of cocaine, and the DOJ said Waugh admitted he intended to sell the cocaine found during the search.

Waugh was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine.
