Depending on your vote on November 5, that open seat could be Jacquelyn McMiller either Diana Giraldo.

Giraldo says there is a need to balance a balanced ratio of rental communities versus home ownership.

“Home ownership is very important for us to really create generational wealth,” Giraldo says. “It’s really part of building the American dream and we want to make sure that the places we’re creating around housing provide equity to the community.”

He explained that developments, such as grocery stores, dental offices and doctors’ offices, need to be added to the community as living spaces are built.

McMiller plans to increase funding through bonus opportunities and connections with organizations. She explained that she loves development and is open to being an intermediary, delegating information and meeting the needs of her constituents.

“The city of Fort Myers has a trust fund for affordable housing that we are currently building, and that was one of the funds I fought for while I was involved with LIFE,” McMiller says. “So there are other areas we can use.”

Giraldo says his priorities are infrastructure, flooding and housing. His opponent, McMiller, says his priorities are housing, infrastructure and jobs.

“As an architect with a background in community development, with all the relationships and work I’ve done in the community, this is the natural next step for me,” Giraldo says.

McMiller shared that his degree in business and risk management and “my Lean Six Sigma certification ensure that people will have someone well-versed in city management and nationally recognized, to ensure city processes are executed seamlessly.” problems and efficiently.
