MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The former director of the Winn Parish Council on Aging has been arrested for embezzlement.

According to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office, Jennifer Higgs is accused of using agency funds for personal use.

Louisiana Bureau of Investigation agents determined that Higgs misappropriated approximately $59,000 in funds belonging to the agency through various schemes to cover up his crimes.

With the assistance of the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office, Higgs was booked into the Winn Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

• Illegal transfer of funds
• Falsification
• Theft of more than $25,0000

His bail has reportedly been set at $50,000.

This is an ongoing investigation.
