Chelsea boss Maresca only needs Sancho v Man Utd; wishes Rubén Amorim “all the best”

Enzo Maresca says he will give Ruud van Nistelrooy “a big hug” before Chelsea face Manchester United in the Premier League.

The face of the blues manchester united on sunday but Rubén Amorim, new coach of the Red Devils He won’t be in charge until November 11, meaning Van Nistelrooy will be in charge on an interim basis.

Maresca played with Van Nistelrooy at Málaga and expect a meeting this weekend.

“All the best to him (Amorim). If those responsible made that decision it is because they believe it is the correct one. All the best to him and Manchester United.

“I didn’t talk to Ruud. I’ll give him a big hug on Sunday before the game.

“He is a fantastic guy, humble, very professional. I shared moments with him when I was done, but even then you could see how good he was.”

Maresca will be without Jadon Sancho, on loan from Manchester United, and has no other casualties ahead of the trip to Old Trafford, where Chelsea has not won since 2013.

Chelsea are looking to recover from their Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle United.

“We prepared the game to win, unfortunately we lost,” said Maresca. “We prepare every game to try to win.

“The reason we make changes is because we are all one team, they deserve to play.”

One player who was out of the team in the Premier League but started in the 2-0 defeat at St James’ Park is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

“The idea was to try it with Kiernan as well,” Maresca said when asked about Dewsbury-Hall’s role against Newcastle.

“We played differently against Newcastle to try to control the game a little more. The plan was there and then we conceded a goal, in 10 minutes we lost the game. It could be an idea for the future.”

Moisés Caicedo has been excellent in the Blues midfield this season and is forming a good partnership with Romeo Lavia, who is keeping Dewsbury-Hall and Enzo Fernandez out of the team.

“First of all, it is a question of balance,” Maresca added. “Right now Romeo and Moi give us physicality and strength in the middle. This is the reason why we found the option with Malo in the pocket.

“Do I show frustration with Enzo? I show frustration with all of them. Don’t just look at Enzo. I still trust Enzo. There is no reason why you can lose trust in him.

“The reason he doesn’t play in the Premier League is because I make a different decision but I have 100% confidence in him.

“I like to say that we don’t have an A team or a B team. There are players who are fantastic, but for me we don’t have indispensable players.

“If Cole (Palmer) doesn’t play, we will play with Joao (Felix) and if Nico (Jackson) doesn’t play, we will play with Christo (Christopher Nkunku).

“The reason we changed players is because they are all good. Some are better than the rest but that does not mean that they are always the ones who are going to play.

“You’re looking for different reasons for Enzo, but it’s simple: he’s not playing at the moment but we have a lot of games in the future, so that doesn’t mean he won’t play.”

Asked if Cole Palmer will produce against Man Utd after scoring a hat-trick against them last season, Maresca said: “I hope so. He’s going to play. Cole is doing great all the time.

“If we go back to expecting 20 goals and 20 assists, it’s probably wrong because we don’t need to put pressure on him.”
