Waspi Northamptonshire woman calls budget snub a ‘blow on the chin’

Mary Jones, who is also a member of the Northamptonshire group, said it was “absolutely incredible” to be in Westminster on Wednesday.

“We were doing everything we could to make them realize we were there,” he said.

“We were very disappointed, but fortunately some parliamentarians came later, spoke to us and gave us a lot of hope.

“They told us to move on and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We’re never going to leave.”

The Waspi groups are considering their next steps, which include possible legal action.

But Ms Robertson was hopeful the Government would address the issue after pledging in the Budget to compensate more than £13bn to those involved in the infected blood and Post Office Horizon scandals.

“Different people have a different idea about how to approach it,” Ms Robertson added.

“These groups wanting to go to court will only delay everything else, so going to court will take a long time.

“I hope the path forward is similar to what they were discussing in 2019.”
