Man seriously injured in rear-end crash Thursday in Crawford County

CHEROKEE, Kan. (WIBW) – One person suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon in a rear-end crash in Crawford County in southeastern Kansas, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, just north of the intersection of Highway K-7 and Highway US-400. The location was on the southwest side of Cherokee, about 6 miles southwest of Pittsburg.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1992 Ford pickup truck was traveling north on Highway K-7 when it stopped to make a left turn.

The truck was then rear-ended by a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck that was also traveling northbound on K-7.

A passenger in the Ford pickup truck, which was rear-ended, suffered serious injuries in the crash, authorities said. The passenger, Felix Baldemar-Gomez, 36, of Pittsburg, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, for treatment of his injuries. The patrol said Baldemar Gómez was wearing his seat belt.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Francisco J. Molina-Medrano, 37, of Pittsburg, was uninjured. The patrol said Molina Medrano was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, Davis G. Davenport, 22, of Farlington, was uninjured. The patrol said Davenport, who was alone in the truck, was wearing his seat belt.
