Wagner looks to keep playoff hopes alive against Boerne Champion on TNL

SAN ANTONIO – Wagner looks to stay in the playoff hunt, while Boerne Champion looks to play the role of spoilers on Taco Cabana’s Thursday Night Lights show presented by Gamez Law Firm.

It’s all there for the Wagner Thunderbirds. If they win their last two games they will be in the postseason.

Wagner (3-4 overall, 2-3 District 13-5A-I) has run with the district’s best, but they are really banged up heading into their matchup with Boerne Champion.

The Thunderbirds, however, make no excuses.

Seguin’s Hail Mary from 20 yards out in the final seconds sealed a 28-27 comeback win last week over Wagner.

The Thunderbirds blew a 20-0 first-quarter lead in which quarterback Charles Mondy and Jaden Tardy rushed for more than 100 yards and scored touchdowns.

Wagner led 27-14 with eight minutes left in the third quarter, but Seguin quarterback Corey Dailey led the Matadors to a pair of comeback scores.

The Thunderbirds look to get back into the win column against Boerne Champion, which has nine new starters on both sides of the ball.

For Boerne Champion and his seniors, the season is coming to a close, but the opportunity to get a win in front of a home television audience should provide plenty of motivation.

The Chargers (4-4, 1-4) are trying to bounce back from a 28-10 road loss to Victoria East in which turnovers cost them the game.

Boerne Champion fumbled on two of its first three possessions and threw an interception that stopped its drive. Victoria East would score three touchdowns in the first half and never looked back.

The Chargers will try to slow down Wagner’s offense and ruin their playoff chances.

SNEAKERS AND UNDERWEAR

San Antonio has shown some good, some bad and some ugly early in this young season. They won the first game at home in a game they probably would have lost last year and showed something they didn’t have a year ago: physicality. Also, some cowboys talk.

TNL BAND COMPETITION

Our Thursday Night Lights Band Grant, sponsored by CHRISTUS Children’s, will give our fans the opportunity to nominate their favorite TNL participating band. On November 3rd, the band with the most nominations will be selected to win $5,000 in grants!
