Wife killed, husband seriously injured in Jackson County crash

NAPOLEON TWP., Mich. (WILX) – A woman is dead and her husband is in serious condition after a crash in Jackson County.

On Wednesday, October 30, Napoleon Township Police and Fire were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of Brooklyn Rd and Napoleon Rd.

There, first responders discovered that a Kia SUV had crashed into a truck traveling west on Brooklyn Rd. Authorities believe the Kia had attempted to turn left onto eastbound Brooklyn from southbound Napoleon, driving directly toward the semi-trailer.

The truck tried to avoid the Kia without success.

The Kia was driven by 79-year-old Gary Burnette of Napoleon. His wife, Ruth Ann, 80, was traveling as a passenger.

Both were seriously injured and taken to Henry Ford Hospital. Ruth would later die from her injuries.

Gary is in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the truck, a 40-year-old man from Ironwood, was also taken to the hospital but later released.
