JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — A single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 35 claimed the life of a 49-year-old Illinois man Thursday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The incident occurred near mile marker 13 around 11:35 am.

Erik Edgardo, of Wheeling, Illinois, was driving a 2016 International truck eastbound on US 35 when he lost control while rounding a curve near the entrance ramp from Broadway Street. The vehicle overturned and went off the right side of the road. Edgardo was partially ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, Enrique Romulo, 43, of Palatine, Illinois, was injured in the accident. Romulo was initially transported to Holzer Medical Center and then airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, for additional treatment.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Jackson Post was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Durham Wreckers. Traffic on US 35 was restricted to one lane for approximately two and a half hours during investigation and recovery operations. The accident remains under investigation.
