QUICK SUMMARY

Girard-Perregaux presents a new Casquette 2.0 with a titanium case, yellow gold details and a limited production.

Priced at £4,200, just 820 examples of the 1970s throwback will be produced.

Calling all retro sci-fi fans: this is the look for you. Girard-Perregaux says it’s the latest installment of its Casquette 2.0, a ’70s throwback with a vintage LED display.

This is the third version of the Casquette 2.0, which in turn arrived in 2022 as a rebirth of the original Casquette, a watch that was launched in 1976 to great critical success from an audience in love with science fiction blockbusters, travel spaces and the modernity of quartz. -Digital powered clocks.

The latest version retains the wonderful retro case design of the original Casquette, but this time uses grade 5 titanium instead of steel and features 18K yellow gold for the GP logo and pushers, a nod to its plated ancestors in gold from the 1970s.

It comes with a matching titanium bracelet with a rubber lining for added comfort. The titanium buckle is equipped with a micro-adjustment system that allows the wearer to adjust the size of the bracelet to create a perfect fit. These systems are useful when your wrist size varies slightly as the ambient temperature increases or decreases.

Limited to 820 pieces worldwide, the titanium Casquette 2.0 is powered by the in-house Caliber GP03980 quartz movement, providing additional functions not found on the 1976 original. Along with the hours, minutes and seconds, the new watch displays the day and date, plus the month, year, chronograph, a second time zone and a secret date.

Unusually, Girard-Perregaux explains how the movement can be adapted to the original watch from 1976. GP says the move demonstrates that it is “avoiding obsolescence and making the Casquette one of the oldest working quartz watches in existence today” .

Retailing for CHF4,750 (£4,215), the Casquette 2.0 Titanium and Gold has a case size of 42.4 x 33.6mm and a height of 14.64mm. It is water resistant up to 50 meters and the red digital display is protected by sapphire crystal.
