Search in connection with the murder of Amanda Dean in 2017

HURON COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – Agents with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) searched a property Thursday in connection with the 2017 disappearance of Amanda Dean.

According to a spokesperson for Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, the search is “part of his ongoing investigation into the Frederick Reer case.”

Frederick Reer is charged with murder, tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse in connection with Dean’s death, although his body has not been found.

Dean, a 36-year-old mother of four, was last seen on July 11, 2017 in Collins.

In December 2022, Huron County sheriff’s detectives reopened their investigation into Dean’s disappearance.

Researchers executed a search warrant in November 2023 at Reer’s father’s house. It is still unknown what investigators discovered during their search.

Reer was taken into custody on February 9 and will return to court on November 14 for a bond hearing.
