Joshua Herrin found guilty of shooting Bryan officer in 2022

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – A Brazos County jury found Joshua Herrin, the man accused of shooting two local deputies, among other charges, in 2022, guilty Thursday morning of aggravated assault on a public servant .

In this phase of his trial, Herrin was found guilty of shooting and wounding a Bryan police officer. A separate trial will be held on his charges of shooting and wounding a Brazos County sheriff’s deputy.

According to testimony heard Tuesday, the Bryan police officer attempted to stop Herrin in December 2022 because his vehicle had a non-working taillight. Herrin told the jury his license was suspended, so he didn’t want to stop. This incident ultimately led to Herrin shooting the officer, then stealing his patrol unit and leading several law enforcement agencies on a chase that lasted more than 12 hours.

Herrin’s trial officially began Tuesday and concluded Thursday morning. The sentence will be announced later.

The jury deliberated on Herrin’s guilty verdict for seven minutes.
