Former Laquay teacher convicted of inappropriate relations with a student

LAQUAY, Mo. (KY3) – A Laquey High School teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been sentenced.

According to court documents, Hailey Clifton-Carmack of Waynesville was sentenced in court Friday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of sexual contact with a student. She must also take a sex offender assessment.

Clifton-Carmack was arrested earlier this year in the San Antonio area.

In early December, a school employee reported that a witness claimed the teacher and a 16-year-old student were in a relationship. Investigators say they found messages on Clifton-Carmack’s phone related to the relationship. In an interview, investigators said Clifton-Carmack denied the accusation.

School leaders say she had not been to school since December and did not expect to return.

Authorities also arrested Mark Creighton, who was accused of knowing about the relationship but failing to report it. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He recently pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and is expected to be sentenced on November 6.
