911 Calls Highlight Devastation and East Tennessee Response Following Helene Flood

EAST TENNESSEE (WVLT) – More than a month after Hurricane Helene caused record flooding in East Tennessee, 911 calls from those affected show the terrifying experiences the storm caused.

WVLT News obtained calls from the Cocke County 911 center. They tell the stories of those who faced some of the worst devastation in the state.

“Our house is like split in half,” said one caller to dispatchers on Sept. 27.

Another: “We have a girl and a woman trapped in a trailer here in Denton.”

The flooding prompted responses from first responders, not only in Cocke County, but across the state.

Agencies from all over, including places like Knox County and Nashville, sent help to Northeast Tennessee. The calls highlight their responses and the comprehensive work dispatchers did to ensure the right people were in the right places.
