Chelsea news: Cole Palmer ‘too much in himself for England’

On Monday, Phil McNulty answered questions from fans, including about Chelsea striker Cole Palmer’s role with England.

Mike asked: What do you think is the problem with Cole Palmer and England? He looks very nervous and plays back almost everything. He seems much more confident and adventurous at Chelsea.

Phil replied: It’s still very early for Palmer and England. He already showed his class at the European Championships at senior level, but the past two matches were a disappointment.

He was bad against Greece, but in defense he played a position that did not suit him, deep in midfield, while he had a hard time against Finland.

He didn’t play with his usual ambition. He was too wrapped up in himself. I have no doubt that Palmer will be an excellent player for England in the long term.
