Wichita murder suspect who cut off ankle monitor at Sedgwick County Jail after arrest in Mexico

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A Wichita murder suspect is back in the Sedgwick County Jail after his extradition to Kansas from Mexico.

Police initially arrested González Gutiérrez on June 16 (Father’s Day) on charges including first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. related to the shooting death of Aron Lara, 28.

“He was subsequently released on bail,” police said of González Gutiérrez following his arrest in June.

On June 21, police said González-Gutiérrez violated his pretrial restrictions by cutting off his ankle monitor. Following news of González Gutiérrez’s arrest in Mexico two weeks ago, the Wichita Police Department said it was working closely with the U.S. Marshals Service to facilitate his extradition to Wichita.

The main question in the case that led to the arrest of Eric González Gutiérrez south of the border was how he was allowed to leave custody in the first place. Questions also arose about the police response needed to capture González Gutiérrez. In the video above, you can see 12 News’ coverage delving into those questions.
