Brighton 2-3 Liverpool: Fans’ opinions on Carabao Cup match

We asked him for his opinion after Wednesday’s League Cup match between Brighton and Liverpool.

Here are some of their comments:

Brighton fans

John: Brighton played some decent things against a brilliant Liverpool counter-attacking team in a very difficult place to deal with. There are still players trying to establish themselves at Brighton and Gruda looks very good, but Wieffer is still not in rhythm and Moder needs a new club.

Cliff: Simple mistakes seem to be the story of our game lately and losing possession at crucial moments in dangerous areas. We need to focus on these rare moments.

Steve: Once again a Brighton manager took out a weak team. It is not surprising that we have never reached the quarterfinals, because clearly the league always comes first.

José: It feels like a missed opportunity for the coach to present the starting lineup he made. Questionable first round of defensive substitutions when they were already two goals down. The less said about Wieffer, the better.

Liverpool fans

Clifford: The changes made to Liverpool’s defense were too many and upset the balance. It could have been a different result.

Acquaintance: Great victory against a very dangerous team that never gives up. We turned the ball over too much and looked careless at times. Our determination to win and the fantastic skills of Gakpo and Díaz made the difference. Why didn’t Brighton start Mitoma and Welbeck? Exciting match that was a pleasure to watch.

Keith: He impressed us for most of the match in what was on paper an extremely tough tie. Arne Slot is going from strength to strength, but his managerial mettle will be tested by the task of making Quansah the finished article as he remains error-prone. Decent tie for quarterfinals too.

Canada: In the second half we were in control but we kept allowing Brighton to get back in with silly mistakes. Our substitute players need to be more clinical in their approach.
