Labor announces candidate for North Tyneside mayor

He has held the position since 2013, beating then-Conservative incumbent Linda Arkley.

Clark secured his position after beating David Slater in a vote by local party members. Fellow councilor Joe Kirwin also ran but did not make the shortlist, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The victorious candidate said: “I am standing to be mayor-elect because I love North Tyneside and its people.

“It is already a fantastic place to live, work and visit – I know that together we can make the most of it.”

Clark is currently North Tyneside Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing and co-founding director of Justice Prince Community Interest Company, a voluntary organization tackling regional economic and social inequalities.
