Man Killed in Northeast Portland Crash, 21-Year-Old Faces Involuntary Manslaughter Charges

PORTLAND Pray. (KPTV) – A 51-year-old man died and a 21-year-old man was arrested after a crash Monday in Northeast Portlandthe Portland Police Bureau said Wednesday.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., police responded to a two-car crash near Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 118th Avenue.

After an initial investigation, police said the crash occurred when the driver of a 2007 Dodge Caliber was turning left onto Northeast 118th Avenue from Northeast Halsey Street.

Manuel D. España Torres of Portland was driving a 2009 Acura east on Northeast Halsey Street when he crashed into the passenger side of the Dodge. Zachary D. Fine was a passenger in the Dodge and died in the crash.

Detectives say they believe excessive speed contributed to the crash.

España Torres received a medical checkup and was then booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center charged with second-degree murder, criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.
