Arcadia man convicted after driving 110 mph, causing fatal crash

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (WWSB) – Mason Gregory Jeter, of Arcadia, has been found guilty of vehicular manslaughter, following a two-day jury trial in Charlotte County.

Jeter was arrested in December 2023 for a fatal crash that occurred on September 21, 2023. The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash that occurred on I-75 near mile marker 150 in Charlotte County.

The defendant was driving a 2022 Ford Mustang GT 500, traveling southbound in the center lane. A 2018 Dodge Challenger was also traveling southbound in the left lane.

The left side of the Mustang struck the side of the Challenger. This collision caused the defendant’s vehicle to leave the road. He crashed into a tree and overturned his car. The other driver’s vehicle also left the road and struck a tree, killing the 37-year-old driver.

The FHP investigation into the accident determined that the Mustang, driven by the defendant, was traveling at 110 mph immediately before the accident and three of the car’s tires were defective because they were bare and without tread.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2024.
