Accused Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has pleaded with government officials not to slow down in the fight against alcoholism in Mount Kenya and other regions of the country.

Gachagua said his war on illicit beverages should not lose momentum, even if he is pursued for removal.

“We must not allow our sons not to become real men. “Our boys, our seed carriers, are in danger,” he said.

He lamented that alcoholism began to return to the Mount Kenya region when his problems in government began.

“I did a lot to fight alcoholism, for two years because it is our house that is ending.
But since they started fighting and putting me down, the alcoholism has returned. “He has begun to finish our house again, and know that it is not against me that he is fighting, but against the region,” he added.

Speaking in Limuru during the Mwalimu Geoffrey Murugami memorial service on Wednesday, Gachagua called on chiefs, deputy chiefs and police officers to not allow alcoholism to return to Mount Kenya.

“We don’t want to see our young people in the trenches because of alcoholism again,” he added.

Gachahua maintained that the war against alcoholism must continue even in his absence.

“They can put pressure on Gachagua but let the work he did for two years remain. “Leaders come and go,” he said.

A court blocked President William Ruto’s nominee for new vice president a day after lawmakers voted to remove Gachagua from office over allegations of serious misconduct and weakening the president.

The Senate confirmed the National Assembly’s dismissal of Gachagua and voted to remove him from office.

The result of the vote was the first time in Kenya’s history that the head of the Office of the Vice President was removed from office through a trial resulting from an impeachment process.

The 67 Senate legislators found the PD guilty on five counts, but acquitted him on six charges.

Gachagua has described as insufficient, inadequate and unfair the public participation exercise that preceded the impeachment motion in the National Assembly.
