Couple arrested after woman found dead near waterfall in Hong Kong

A marriage has been arrested in Hong Kong for the alleged murder of a domestic worker whose body was discovered near a waterfall on Monday.

Police arrested the 34-year-old foreigner with a Hong Kong ID card and his 36-year-old Hong Kong-born wife on Tuesday afternoon. They are suspects in the murder of the 25-year-old Southeast Asian maid whose body was found in Waterfall Bay park near Aberdeen early on Monday, the newspaper reported. Hong Kong Free Press.

The man is charged with murder, while the wife faces charges of allegedly aiding his attempt to evade the law.

The victim had visible wounds on his forehead, the back of his head and his limbs, but his clothes and belongings remained intact, police superintendent Sin Kwok-ming was quoted as saying. South Porcelain Morning post.

An initial autopsy concluded that he likely suffered trauma from a hard object and subsequently drowned, the outlet reported.

Investigators said the victim arrived at the park with the suspect around 11 p.m. Sunday in a taxi.

They went to the top of the waterfall where, about half an hour later, the man abruptly left, again by taxi.

Police identified the man and sent a squad to his home in Ap Lei Chau. However, by the time they arrived, the man and his wife had crossed into mainland China.

They were arrested upon their return to Hong Kong, at the West Kowloon train station, at around 5pm on Tuesday.

Police confirmed that the victim knew the suspect, although details regarding the nature of their relationship, the sequence of events and possible motives were still being investigated.

Police are waiting for a toxicology report to determine drug use, the police said. South China Morning Post.

Sin said police were suspicious of the man because of his behavior. “A lot of things about him were unreasonable,” the newspaper quoted him as saying. Hong Kong Free Press. He explained that the man did not report the incident or stay in Hong Kong and that “some evidence had also disappeared for no reason.”

“All these circumstances suggest that this is not a case of natural death,” the superintendent said. The couple remains in custody while police conduct their investigation.
