Brighton Police Report Serious Bodily Injuries to Suspect After He Resisted Arrest

DENVER (KDVR) – A 33-year-old suspect was seriously injured during a police response at Brighton’s Japanese American Association Park on Monday.

Brighton Police reported that officers were dispatched to BJAA Park, located near North 12th Avenue and Longs Peak Street, just before 10:45 p.m. for a domestic disturbance involving a man and a woman.

Callers initially described the disturbance as a verbal argument, but later described it as a physical assault on the woman.

Officers arrived at the scene and gave commands to the man, who did not cooperate, according to the agency. Officers said he resisted arrest and later determined he was seriously injured. Officers requested medical personnel to respond to the scene, who then transported him to a hospital for further care.

The man is under investigation for assault and domestic violence.

The officer involved in the arrest has been placed on paid administrative leave while the 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team investigates this incident, which is police department protocol.
