Director who made film cheated millions of rupees

Manish Trehan, the producer of the web series ‘Jamtara’ based on money fraud, was recently accused of cheating a businessman of Rs 2.5 crore. However, Manish’s team has termed these allegations as false and baseless.

How did the business start?

The case started in the year 2022 when Manish Trehan met businessman Nihar. Manish told Nihar that he is the director of Click On RM Private Limited and asked for a fund of Rs 2 crore for a film project. Manish promised to repay the money, including interest, within a year. Nihar trusted Manish and transferred the money through an online transaction.

What’s the whole fraud thing?

Nihar, owner of a finance company, gave Manish a year. When the time was over, Manish arrived at Nihar’s office with a man. The man introduced himself as Satwant Singh and Manish told him that he was a senior officer of a famous OTT platform. When Nihar asked Manish about the return of the money, Manish said that the film is almost ready and only editing work is needed. Following this, Manish Nihar asked for another Rs 50 lakh, assuring that the film will be sold on the OTT platform soon.

Next steps and fraud disclosure

Nihar believed Manish’s words and gave him more money on October 5, 2023. Following this, Manish gave Nihar four post-dated cheques, which he asked to cash before March 31, 2024. When Nihar tried to cash the checks, all four checks were bounced. The reason was that Manish had issued a payment order to him. After this, Nihar tried to contact Manish several times, but Manish blocked his number. Worried, Nihar filed a complaint with the police.

Manish’s team denies it

Manish’s team has completely dismissed the allegations. Nihar’s legal team says Manish and his father have repaid part of the loan. Manish’s lawyer accused Nihar and said that this FIR was filed only because Nihar was making illegal demands.
