Schoolboy, 7, suffers life-changing injuries after being hit by a bus

A seven-year-old boy is in hospital after being hit by a bus on a major road. The incident happened at around 6.20pm last night, Saturday October 12, on Moston Lane East in the Moston area of ​​North Manchester.

Police were called to the scene after reports that a child had been hit by a bus. Ambulance crews also rushed to the scene, closing off part of the road.


A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesperson said a boy was rushed to hospital with “life-changing but non-life-threatening injuries”. No one on the bus was injured, The Manchester Evening News reports.

Last night there was a cordon with images of a Bee Network bus within the police band. Inquiries continued into the evening within the cordon, which was located near the junction of Moston Lane East with Broadway.


The road was closed to traffic in both directions. A GMP spokesperson said: “We are investigating a collision between a bus and a seven-year-old boy that occurred in Manchester at 6.20pm yesterday (Saturday 12 October 2024).

“The bus was traveling on Moston Lane East before colliding with the pedestrian. The boy suffered serious injuries and is currently in hospital. These injuries are described as life-altering, but are not considered life-threatening.


“No injuries have been reported by anyone on the bus. We would urge any witnesses who have not yet spoken to us to contact us.”

“Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to get in touch and is also encouraged to come forward by calling the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 or 101, quoting log 2486 of 10-12- 24.”

TfGM’s Chief Network Officer, Danny Vaughan, said: “We are aware of an incident last night involving a young child and a bus. Our thoughts are with the boy involved and we wish him a speedy recovery. We are working closely with the bus operator and supporting the police in their investigation.”
