What a Yankee fan’s brother saw on the World Series interference play

Mookie Betts didn’t hesitate to let two Yankees fans know that they had made a mistake.

A pair of determined Bronx Bombers supporters along the right field wall aggressively attempted to knock Gleyber Torres’ foul ball out of Betts’ glove in the first inning of Tuesday’s World Series Game 4 in an embarrassing scene that saw spectators quickly removed from Yankee Stadium.

“I just see the ball, I don’t want to say it’s in play, if that makes sense,” Darren Capobianco. he told The Athletic of his brother Austin’s interference in the work. “And then Mookie was insulting us. “It’s not good.”

Anthony, a Connecticut resident, told the outlet via text message, “I just want to watch the game.”

If you were able to see the rest of the season-extending 11-4 victory, it’s unclear from where.

His inability to keep his hands to himself at that point earned Torres an automatic exit for fan interference.

That meant Austin Capobianco – and the enthusiastic fan next to him (not his brother Darren) – missed Torres’ monster home run in the eighth inning, a three-run blast that opened the floodgates on the Yankees’ first win of the season. World Series.

Betts did not want to repeat the incident and told reporters that he was not injured.

“I didn’t even know he had grabbed my hand,” she said. “It’s perfectly fine.”

If there were any lingering feelings, the eight-time All-Star didn’t let on.

“When it comes to the person and the game, it doesn’t matter,” he said. “We lost. It’s irrelevant. I’m fine, he’s fine. Everything’s fine. We lost the game, that’s what I’m focused on. Turn the page and get ready for tomorrow.”

Capobianco earned a place in the hearts of at least one other Yankee fan with his intensity.

“I saw him being taken out,” one fan told The Athletic. “I told him he was my hero for trying to save the Yankees. “It’s the championship game.”
