Defeat the fun police! Anonymous local posts hilarious parody boards mocking the city’s “lack of fun.”

A local man has taken it upon himself to set up hilarious parody boards mocking his city’s ‘lack of fun’.

The anonymous spoofer, who simply goes by the name Chichester Anti-Recreation Partnership (Carp), wants to make people laugh but also wants to draw attention to the ‘over-regulation and lack of fun’ after noticing warning or bans signs were ‘everywhere’.

Examples of the signs include a sign that reads “Warning.” Children are known to operate in this area and another area where people are warned of a ‘coffee control area’ where the consumption of caffeinated drinks is prohibited within certain hours.

Carp says his aim is to highlight ‘local absurdities’ and ‘add more fun to Chichester’.

A Facebook group run by the anonymous local has amassed more than 1,000 followers and is keeping Chichester residents informed about the latest satirical creations celebrating England’s cathedral city of West Sussex.

One of the signs reads ‘Coffee Control Area’ – apparently a joke about the number of ‘restrictions’ Carp has observed in the city

'No unauthorized signs'. Carp noticed that there were warning or prohibition signs 'everywhere' and therefore set out to challenge them

Since the project started in August, about 35 fake Carp signs have popped up around the city.

Another hilarious sign Carp put up last week makes fun of parking charges – the sign is at a level crossing and reads: ‘Automated parking charging zone: for any stop longer than 3 minutes. £1 per minute. Enjoy your stay.’

Carp added as a caption on social media: “Don’t you just hate being stuck at the gate?”

Chichester District Council says it is investing £814,000 in renovations to several play areas in Chichester.

“Families and young people are a very important part of our community,” a spokesperson told the BBC.

The council added that it had set up a special evening and night working group, which gathered views on what young people would like to see in the city in the future.

The signs often make fun of rules. In this case they read 'train spotting discouraged', 'note: trains' and 'no paragliding'

But Carp said: ‘Humor has the unique ability to disarm people: it lowers their defense mechanisms and allows them to see issues from a new perspective.

‘It reframes problems in a way that is more approachable and less confrontational, making it easier to get your message across and start discussions.

‘I feel like I’m helping to make the city a better place for everyone.

“Whether it’s a smile, a conversation, or just getting people to think about the issues in a new way, I think the impact justifies the effort.”

“I absolutely love Chichester,” he continued, speaking to the BBC.

‘But there are some notable gaps, especially when it comes to fun and things for young people to do.

‘Over time, the focus has increasingly shifted to catering for older residents.

‘While it’s great that there is so much for those in retirement, it feels like this comes at the expense of forgetting the younger generations.’

According to the Office for National Statistics, almost half of Chichester residents are over 50.
