Yankees fans try to rip off Mookie Betts’ glove and get the ball out

New York Yankees Fans are doing everything they can to give their team a ray of hope.

The Bronx Bombers are on the verge of losing the World Series in front of their home crowd Tuesday night, and it didn’t take long for what was perhaps the strangest moment of this year’s postseason.

In the bottom of the first inning, Gleyber Torres hit a fly ball down the right field line heading toward the stands.

Los Angeles Dodgers Outfielder Mookie Betts jumped toward the ball and caught it, but was apparently in a danger zone.

A Yankee fan in the front row literally tried to rip Betts’ glove off his hand and get the ball out; another fan grabbed Betts’s wrists when the ball finally came out.

It is questionable whether it was fair play for the fan to make a play on the ball: fans cannot put their hands into the field of play, but if the ball is beyond the wall, it is anyone’s ball.

Betts was clearly not happy when the referee signaled for the exit as security also approached.

It wasn’t exactly Jeffrey Maier, as that ended up being considered a home run for the Yankees.

New York has lost the first three games of the World Series; Monday marked its first home game in the Fall Classic since winning it all in 2009.
