Plattsburgh man pleads guilty to federal health care fraud

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – A Plattsburgh man faces up to 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty Tuesday to federal health care fraud charges.

Federal authorities say Scott Newcombe, 40, admitted to submitting false and fraudulent claims while acting as an office manager and claims biller for two doctors through a company he formed called SJ Healthcare Management Services, LLC.

They say he admitted that he submitted false and fraudulent claims to public and private insurers on behalf of those practices for services that, in some cases, were never provided and, in other cases, were provided at lower reimbursement rates than the amounts billed.

He will be sentenced in February.
