Harris, in her final speech to voters, will offer a different path to Trump’s ‘chaos’

Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver her closing argument for her presidential bid at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, where she is expected to deliver an optimistic and hopeful message focused on moving forward, according to a senior Harris campaign official.

With the White House in the background, Harris will offer a split screen and urge voters to “turn the page” on the era of former President Trump by promising to put country before party, the senior campaign official said.

“America, we know what Donald Trump has in mind. More chaos. More division. And policies that help those at the top and hurt everyone else. I offer a different path. And I ask for your vote,” Harris will say . according to excerpts of his comments prepared for delivery.

He will criticize Trump for the “enemy within” language he has used to describe his political opponents, saying he is “unstable” and “consumed by grievance.”

Following his promise to Americans, he “will commit to finding common ground and common-sense solutions to improve their lives. I’m not looking to score political points. I’m looking to make progress,” according to the published excerpts.

“I am committed to listening to the experts. To those who will be affected by the decisions I make. And to the people who disagree with me,” he will say. “Unlike Donald Trump, I don’t think people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail. I’ll give them a seat at my table. And I promise to be a president for all Americans. Let’s always put the country above the party and above ourselves.

About 40,000 people are expected to attend the event, according to a permit approved by the National Park Service, an increase from the 20,000 people expected to attend, according to the permit issued for the campaign last week.

Harris has said flatly that the location of the speech near the National Mall, the same place where Trump delivered his remarks before the January 6, 2021, attacks at the US Capitol, it was to remind Americans of their choice between Harris and Trump and who would go to the White House.

“I would think and think about that place more in the context of what will be behind me, which is the White House. And I am doing it there, because I think it is very important for the American people to see and think about who will occupy that space on January 20,” Harris said recently told Norah O’Donnell of CBS News.

“The reality is that most Americans can visualize the Oval Office. We’ve seen it on television, and this is a real scenario. It’s either going to be Donald Trump or it’s going to be me sitting behind the determined desk in the Oval Office.”

With a week until Choice Day, both Harris and Trump are working to make their final appeals to undecided voters in what is expected to be a close race.

Harris’ campaign said it plans to paint Trump as someone consumed by his grievances and an endless desire for retaliation, highlighting his promise to go after those on his “enemies list” and how it contrasts with Harris’ focus on her “for- make the list.” It’s a message he often incorporates into his speech.

“It’s full of grievances. It’s full of dark language that’s about retribution and revenge, so the American people have a choice. Either it will be that, or I’ll be there, focused on my to-do list, focused on the American people and fulfilling that list of goals and plans to improve the lives of the American people,” Harris told reporters Sunday while campaigning in Philadelphia.

Her closing argument will highlight what she says is Americans’ desire to “turn the page” on Trump by emphasizing his plans and priorities for the country, namely the economy. The vice president has promised to reduce costs and prioritize the middle class in her “opportunity economy.”

Following her speech at the Ellipse, Harris plans to carry this message as she tours battleground states in the final days of the campaign. The events will focus on a series of concerts to get out the vote.

“I’m spending time in all the communities to make sure that they hear directly from me, so that they can judge for themselves without filters. And I’m going to continue to do that. I will leave nothing on the field in this election, leaving nothing on the field “Harris said in an interview with MSNBC earlier this month.
