Motorcycle driver seriously injured after crashing into a deer

A motorcycle rider suffered possible life-threatening injuries after crashing into a deer in Newton County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Another driver escaped a crash Monday in Newton County when his pickup truck struck a deer and rolled several times before crashing into a tree on Highway 87 South, just south of Newton.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that around 12:40 p.m. Saturday, the driver of a 2017 Indian Roadmaster motorcycle was traveling north on FM 1012, several miles northwest of Newton, near the community of Jamestown. The motorcycle reportedly collided with a deer on the road and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle after losing control following the impact.

The bicyclist, a 65-year-old man from Buna, was transported to Christus Southeast for treatment of possible life-threatening injuries, according to DPS.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
