British girl dies in Rome after “allergic reaction to peanuts” | World news

A 14-year-old British girl has died in Rome after suffering an allergic reaction to peanuts, according to Italian media reports.

The girl and her family arrived in the Italian capital last Thursday, the newspapers La Stampa and Corriere Della Sera reported.

On the first day of their vacation in the city, they supposedly went to dinner near their accommodation, but during the meal, the girl suffered an allergic reaction that caused her to go into anaphylactic shock.

She was reportedly rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

Local prosecutors have launched an involuntary manslaughter investigation, media said.

Any such investigation will depend on whether or not their allergy was communicated to the restaurant where they ate, or whether there were difficulties in communicating it, it was added.

La Stampa also said the girl’s father suffered heart problems due to shock from the incident and was hospitalized for angina.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British boy who died in Italy and are in contact with local authorities.”
