Tompkins County Launches Initiative to Provide Free Induction Cooktops to Reduce Gas Stove Emissions

Tompkins County has announced a new initiative offering free induction cooktops and compatible cookware to residents with gas stoves, with the goal of reducing indoor air pollution and fossil fuel use. This program is part of the county’s Healthy Neighborhoods Program, a state-funded effort that focuses on housing-related health issues, in collaboration with the Department of Planning and Sustainability and Tompkins County Whole Health.

To qualify, residents must request a home visit through the Healthy Neighborhoods Program. During these visits, staff will educate participants on how to manage various health risks in their homes. Importantly, recipients are not required to replace or dispose of their existing gas stoves to receive the new equipment.

Funded by the New York Clean Energy Communities Program, this initiative highlights the efficiency of induction cooktops and reduced health risks compared to gas cooktops. Interested residents can contact the Healthy Neighborhoods Program for more details on how to schedule a visit.
