Game over for immaculate Reds star, Richard Hughes ‘in touch’ for Roma star in huge summer deal

Game over for immaculate Reds star, Richard Hughes ‘in touch’ for Roma star in huge summer deal

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar in 2025 amid fresh fears that both Alisson Becker and Caiomhin Kelleher could leave Anfield and with the Irishman once again admitting he wants to establish himself as No.1 elsewhere.

The Reds have arguably the two best goalkeeping options in the Premier League, with Alisson widely regarded as one of, if not the best in the world at the moment, and Kelleher regarded as one of the best substitutes around. And with Liverpool recently missing the Brazilian for at least seven games due to the hamstring injury he suffered in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, Kelleher can expect another run of first-team appearances.

However, Kelleher knows he will never be more than a back-up at Anfield and recently expressed his frustrations over the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili as Alisson’s long-term successor.

With speculation that both Alisson and Kelleher will leave Merseyside in 2025, the Reds are seemingly scouring the market for a new goalkeeper who can provide cover and competition for Mamardasvili next season – and potentially give Liverpool a whole new goalkeeping department next season.

According to AS Roma Livethe Reds are keen to sign Roma keeper Mile Svilar amid claims Richard Hughes is ‘in contact’ with representatives of the Giallorossi stopper over a summer move.

However, a deal won’t come cheap with a value of up to €35 million for Svilar – who represented Belgium throughout his youth career before switching to Serbia.

So what has Kelleher said about Liverpool’s future and what’s next for Alisson?

While it is far from certain that Alisson will leave Anfield next summer, we understand that the Brazilian will review his future at the end of the season.

Strongly linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia and Bayern Munich, the Reds will not put any pressure on the 32-year-old and let him decide when it is best to seek a new challenge. His current contract expires in the summer of 2027, so there is no immediate need for either party to consider a divorce.

But the fact that Liverpool have already signed his successor, and our view that if he were to leave he would want to continue at the top level, will force a decision from the player at the end of the season.

Whatever happens, Alisson’s place as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever goalkeepers is secured, and the prospect of Liverpool losing both of their current goalkeepers cannot be ruled out.

Kelleher, meanwhile, has reiterated his desire to earn the chance to become a first-choice goalkeeper elsewhere.

“It’s probably not a tag I want,” Kelleher told the newspaper talkSPORT Daily podcast when he was told he is the best backup goalie there is. “I want to play week in, week out and be number 1.

“Right now the situation for me is that I get these opportunities and I have to do well when I get the opportunities and play well.

“That’s kind of my main focus. If I get a chance to come in and play well.

“It is important that I now play week in, week out and get that number 1 position. I have to show everyone that I am capable and good enough to play week in, week out.

“I feel like I have the quality to play well when necessary, even if it means not playing a match in a few weeks. I can come in and still show my quality, so that’s the most important thing: to be ready when I’m called upon. bee.”

“I feel like I have the quality to play well when I need to, even if that means I haven’t played a match in a few weeks. I can still show my quality and do well.

“So I think that’s obviously the most important thing, just being ready when called upon.”

Liverpool’s latest transfer: Benfica playmaker linked / Kudus left played out

2025 is looking like a year of big changes at Anfield, not least with the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah yet to be finalized and the trio all out of contract next summer.

As for Salah’s replacements, Liverpool have been linked with a plethora of names and one name that has emerged again in recent days is that of West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus.

And those links have forced Fabrizio Romano to speak out on the speculation – while a look at the two players’ stats shows exactly how much of a loss the Reds could face if Salah leaves.

Elsewhere, the Merseysiders have been linked with a bid to reunite Arne Slot with one of his most trusted players from his time at De Kuip in charge of Feyenoord.

And while playmaker Orkun Kokcu left the Rotterdam team shortly after their 2023 Eredivisie title win, the Turkish star has put in great performances for Benfica and was recently watched by Liverpool scouts. However, any deal won’t be cheap.

IN PROFILE: Who is Mile Svilar?

Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1999 to Serbian parents, Svilar played for several Belgian clubs, most notably Beerschot and Anderlecht, before sealing a move to then Primeira Liga champions Benfica in August 2017.

But he made just 23 appearances in five years in Lisbon before securing a move to Italy from Roma, signing a contract until June 2027.

He made just four appearances in the Italian capital during his debut season, playing second fiddle to Rui Patricio, who had joined the Giallorossi from Wolves the summer before.

But after making 30 appearances in the 2023/24 season, including 14 in the Europa League, he made himself a hero to the Roma fans when he saved two penalties in the shootout win over Feyenoord as they saw the Dutch team out knocked out the Europa League. .

Internationally, Svilar played for Belgium from Under-16 to Under-21.

However, he chose to switch his allegiance to Serbia and in September 2021, he made his debut for the country in a 4–0 friendly win over Qatar. However, that remains his only senior international cap to date.

Now established as Roma’s No. 1 with Patricio leaving for Atalanta this summer, Svilar follows the line of goalkeepers in his family with his father Ratko, a former professional footballer in Serbian football.
