The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday alleged that a woman doctor at a city hospital was sexually harassed by the medical superintendent and transferred when she filed a complaint against him.

Accusing reporters of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena of inaction, AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said the complaint about the alleged incident was filed by the woman doctor in October last year.

“An internal complaints committee had found in its investigation that the allegations were true, but no action was taken against him (Medical Superintendent),” Mr Singh alleged.

“Do you (LG) want a repeat of the Kolkata incident in Delhi? Are you waiting for a similar case?” the AAP leader said, referring to the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the West Bengal capital, which sparked nationwide outrage.

The Rajya Sabha member alleged that the woman doctor’s transfer order stated that the action was taken “due to her complaint against the officer”. “This publicly humiliated her because now everyone in the hospital knows she faced sexual harassment,” Mr Singh said.

‘Unfounded accusations’

In response, a Raj Niwas official accused Mr Singh of making “baseless” allegations. “If anyone is to be blamed for inaction towards the doctor accused of sexual misconduct, it is CM Arvind Kejriwal, (Health Minister) Saurabh Bharadwaj and the current CM, Atishi,” the official said.

The official said the file recommending the suspect’s transfer was sent to the CM-led National Capital Civil Service Authority in November last year and no decision has been taken by the panel so far. The official said that after consultation with her and on the advice of the complaints committee, the doctor was “transferred to the place of her choice.”
