Bleacher Report brings you up to date with the latest news from the WWE Universe.

Rhodes backs McGregor crossover

Fans have long entertained the idea of UFC star Conor McGregor turning his attention to WWE. His experience in combat sports and obvious charisma would apparently make him an expert in wrestling.

Cody Rhodes is among those who would like to see McGregor enter the team circle.

“I will say that one person I would love to see take a dive into WWE would be Conor McGregor,” Rhodes told notable YouTuber The Schmo (via Subhojeet Mukherjee (Ringside News). “We were talking about Proper Twelve whiskey and I think Conor should give it a try. The competition environment in WWE is different than what people might expect: it’s a lot about who is the most disciplined, the most professional and gets to the finish line. , arriving at WrestleMania.

“Someone like him, who has competed at the highest level in so many incredible fights, maybe it’s time to explore the more entertainment side of sports. I think he would be great at that.”

Of course, McGregor making his WWE debut probably wouldn’t mean as much now compared to a few years ago. The former featherweight and lightweight champion has not fought since July 2021 and three of his last four fights have ended in defeat.

Still, the 36-year-old remains one of the most recognizable wrestlers signed to the UFC despite his long layoff, so WWE would get plenty of headlines if he appeared on Raw or SmackDown.

HBK organizes dream matches against stars of the past and present

Shawn Michaels turned 59 in July and has wrestled once since his farewell match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI in 2010.

HBK made it clear in an interview with PennLive.com Sean Adams He is “absolutely” retired as a wrestler and “very comfortable being behind the scenes.”

“It’s very important to me, when I look back and think I had a lot of memories,” he said. “I really want to have the opportunity to bring those same dreams and aspirations to the young men and women who walk through our doors at the NXT Performance Center.”

The Hall of Famer at least entertained some hypothetical dream matches. Michaels cited AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Gunther among active WWE stars. In terms of past legends, he listed Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Eddie Guerrero.

“Eddie and I never got in the ring together,” he told Adams. “I think there are always people that you think about, that you would have liked to have had the opportunity to be there with. But time or circumstances didn’t allow it.”

It’s a little surprising in retrospect that Guerrero and Michaels never crossed paths in a singles match. His participation together He was limited to two Royal Rumbles.

Considering how highly regarded his WrestleMania 21 encounter with Kurt Angle is, HBK could have had an equally captivating battle with Guerrero.

Ford Reportedly ‘Resisting’ Singles Urge

Almost from the moment they made their debut as Street Profits, Montez Ford looked like a star in the making, while his partner Angelo Dawkins was typecast as the one who would eventually be sidelined.

Apparently this is a concern for Ford itself.

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling observer radio (via Ringside News’ Steve Bearer) that Ford has been “resisting” a push as a singles wrestler in part because Dawkins “will probably fall into the land of nowhere.”

Speaking with Bleacher Report Sam Doric In April, Ford and Dawkins seemed happy to maintain the status quo.

“I feel like over the years we’ve never let the noise get to us,” Ford said. “…Of course, they talk about it all the time with us, singles with him, singles with me, but they don’t even look at the things we’re still trying to accomplish as a team.”

Dawkins echoed that attitude.

“Everyone’s seen us in singles, so they know what it’s like,” he told Sam. “They know that when that time comes, when we’re both in the singles division or whatever, they’ll know that we’re going to show up no matter what. But right now, we’re focused (on becoming) tag team champions.”

The grass isn’t always greener for team stars who break off for their own individual careers. Enzo and Cass, The IIconics and Heavy Machinery are recent examples of popular teams whose breakups benefited no one in the end.

For Ford and Dawkins, why mess with what’s still good?
