Two people die when a small plane crashes

JESSAMINE CO., Ky. (WKYT)—Authorities are investigating the crash of a small aircraft in Jessamine County.

Sunday in a field near Ashgrove and involved a single-engine parachute plane, according to the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office.

Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Grimes says shortly before 6 p.m., someone saw the plane that appeared to have crashed and called 911.

Sheriff Grimes says first responders arrived on the scene minutes after the 911 call and quickly determined that the two people on board were dead.

It says a man and woman, believed to be husband and wife, died in the crash. Their names have not yet been revealed.

According to Sheriff Grimes, the pilot was experienced and had been flying for approximately 20 years.

A preliminary investigation is underway. The sheriff’s office says the NTSB and FAA have been notified of the crash.

The NTSB is expected to arrive at the crash site Monday morning to begin its investigation.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the area until further notice.
