Bedford Heights man shoots at officers during standoff

BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – A man is in custody after allegedly shooting at police officers and then barricading himself in his home.

Bedford Heights police said Justin Jones, 24, called 911 Wednesday at 9:42 p.m., giving an address in the 5800 block of Scarlet Oak Dr., then hung up.

When the first officer arrived, Jones allegedly fired shots from his porch before going inside.

The SWAT team and Hostage Negotiator Unit were brought to the scene.

Jones allegedly continued shooting at officers from his home.

Officers deployed tear gas and after six hours Jones surrendered.

Police said charges are pending against Jones and no officers were injured.
