Assisted dying: Irish parliament votes in favor of report

Kenny also spoke about the Drivetime program.

He said the choice of assisted dying should be a “fundamental human right.”

“I boil it down to this: if someone is in a position where they are terminally ill and they don’t want to go through any period of that illness, whether it be weeks, days or even hours, then they should have a basic Human Right to saying, ‘I want to end my life on my terms’ as the end of their lives approaches,” Kenny said.

He added that “not everyone will choose that situation.”

Kenny emphasized that in other countries, such as New Zealand and Australia, “there are safeguards; there is supervision; there is a legal framework for how someone makes that request.”
