Today the UN commemorates the anniversary of its founding

The United Nations commemorates the 79th anniversary of its founding, which began with the ratification of the UN Charter on October 24, 1945.

Celebrated annually, UN Day underlines the guiding principles and purposes of the UN Charter that have shaped global cooperation.

To mark the occasion, the United Nations in Pakistan will host a public, family-oriented event at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts in Islamabad on Saturday. The event will highlight the deep historical ties between Pakistan and the UN, and celebrate the contributions Pakistan has made to the global institution over the decades.

A ‘UN marketplace’ will showcase the work of twenty-three UN agencies operating in Pakistan, while a special exhibition will explore the shared history of the UN and Pakistan.

Pakistan stands ready to work with all UN member states: President Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari says Pakistan is ready to work with all member states of the United Nations to achieve a peaceful and prosperous world for all.

In his message on the occasion of United Nations Day today, he said Pakistan has consistently defended the principles of the UN Charter.

Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan has also made invaluable contributions to international peace and security, including acting as a leading military and police contributor to UN peacekeeping operations.

The President said the UN Charter’s vision of universal peace is currently threatened by the blatant violations of its principles in the occupied Palestinian territories and illegally occupied Indian Jammu and Kashmir.
