‘Future Grounds’ — A celebration of youth creativity and innovation

‘Future Grounds’ is a progressive public art initiative that brings together the creative talents of eight emerging youth artists at Aurora Town Square. Developed in collaboration with the Aurora Cultural Center and Toronto-based public art collective Oddside Arts, the project features large-scale banner installations that combine artistic expression with technology.

Each piece, enhanced with Augmented Reality (AR), offers an immersive experience, allowing visitors to explore the artworks through dynamic animations.

Participating artists:

  • Unity’s Gilded Embrace (2024), Sydney Achtermeier
  • they are watching (2024), Niya Ahmed Abdullahi
  • Athena’s Touch (2024), Justina Kandiotis
  • A Poisoned Dream (2024), Narmineh Khurram
  • Guided by the Waves (2024), Madison Kwok
  • Esperanza (2024), Luna Quijano-Barraza
  • Home (2024), Nazia Munir
  • In comes the new generation! (2024), Joycelyn Ng

AR technology, which combines computer-generated images, sound and effects with the real world, plays a central role in this initiative. Using the Artvive app, viewers can experience the artworks in a new dimension and watch them come to life as the boundaries between digital and physical worlds blur.

‘Future Grounds’ is now on view at various locations in Aurora Town Square. For more information about this initiative and other exhibitions at Town Square, visit AuroraTownSquare.ca.
