Country star quits X, saying it’s ‘the most toxic negative app ever’

Following Elon Musk’s 2022 acquisition of Twitter (now X), celebrities, not just Meek Mill, Shonda Rhimes and more, decided they were leaving the app.

Many of those people have returned, but one big name announced this weekend that he was leaving the app for good.

Jelly Roll went to X to let people know he’s done in space.

Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley Deford, issued a statement announcing the move.

“This is without a doubt the most toxic negative app to ever exist – PERIOD. Lol,” wrote Jelly Roll. “This place is different, man. I always heard it was the Wild West out here, but man, it’s crazy. It’s a safe place for everyone to say mean things to each other without consequences. I’m out, lol.”

The post came just 10 minutes after an Oct. 19 post the Tennessee singer made with a photo of him alongside Jack Black and Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers at the 2024 Rock and Roll glory ceremony.

“That’s crazy,” Jelly Roll wrote in the post.

His wife, Bunnie XO, said in May that he was stepping away from social media due to constant bullying about his weight.

“My husband quit the internet because he was so tired of being bullied because of his (power) weight,” she stated. “That makes me cry because he is the sweetest angel baby and he doesn’t show it to you guys but it (comments) hurt him.”

In April, the singer spoke to Variety and said his reasoning also tied into the toxic nature of social media.

“I probably shouldn’t elaborate on this because no one on my team wants to, but I have no problem with social media. And it wasn’t just bullying that did it,” the singer told Variety. “It wasn’t just the toxicity of social media, but the addiction to it. I was too busy to waste hours of my life scrolling. I can honestly say that I have been off social media for a few months now, and I have never felt better or healthier mentally – never have I felt clearer.”

The singer has still not deactivated his X account at this time.

The country artist released his tenth studio album ‘Beautifully Broken’ earlier this month and is currently on tour. The singer’s next stop is in North Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 22.
