KTM 1390 Super Adventure, S Evo, design, power, features

KTM has taken the wraps off the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo in the run-up to EICMA. This bike is the flagship road-oriented ADV in KTM’s range and combines the new 1,350cc engine with the brand’s new AMT and a host of electronics. The overall design is very angular and almost insect-like, like the latest generation of KTM models.

  1. 1,350cc V-twin gets VVT, delivers 173 hp and 145 Nm
  2. AMT gearbox has manual and automatic modes
  3. Electronic aids benefit from radar assistance

The engine in the 1390 Super Adventure S is the same liquid-cooled 1,350cc V-twin as in the Super Duke R, but here it is good for 173 hp and 145 Nm of torque. This engine also benefits from VVT (variable valve timing), which should help support both low-end torque and high-end shear.

But perhaps the biggest talking point about the powertrain is the AMT gearbox mounted on this bike. This eliminates the need for the rider to shift gears in automatic mode, but in manual mode the rider can take over manual control via paddles on the left-hand shift cube.

KTM has also made changes to the main frame to accommodate the larger engine, with the company claiming the frame is stiffer than that of the outgoing 1290. Since this is the Evo variant, the 1390 Super Adventure rolls on the latest generation semi-active electronically controlled WP suspension. Carrying over from the 1290 are the 19/17-inch cast alloy wheels and Brembo braking setup.

As is expected from a top-level ADV touring bike these days, KTM has equipped the 1390 Super Adventure’s electronics arsenal with every possible feature. The standard range of riding modes, traction control, quickshifter and ABS are supplemented by radar-assisted driving aids such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and brake assist.

Here’s something cool the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo can pull off. Because the ECU controls both the AMT and radar-assisted rider aids, the bike can come to a standstill on its own if it detects an object in the road ahead, without the rider having to press the brake lever at all.

All these electronics are controlled via KTM’s brand new 8.8-inch TFT touchscreen – one of the largest dashboards fitted to any production motorcycle to date. KTM will present the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo at EICMA and it will be available internationally from early 2025. Whether this motorcycle will make its way to India is a question that only time will answer.
