14-year-old charged with second-degree murder after shooting of O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi: Manitoba RCMP

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after turning himself in to RCMP following a fatal shooting in western Manitoba.

A 35-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound at a home in O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation, also known as Crane River, around 1 a.m. Monday after RCMP were called to a report of a shooting.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP assisted two residents with medical treatment until paramedics arrived, but the victim died at the scene from his injuries, police said in a news release Tuesday.

A few hours after the shooting, a 14-year-old approached police at the scene and turned himself in.

He was charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody, police said. The RCMP’s top crime and forensic identification services continue to investigate.

Police have not named the victim or indicated whether there was a relationship between him and the teenager.

O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation is located about 230 kilometers northwest of Winnipeg, on the western shore of Lake Manitoba.
