Harrods will settle more than 250 sexual abuse claims against Mohammed al-Fayed

Upmarket London department store Harrods said on Tuesday it was in talks with more than 250 women to settle claims. sexual misconduct by former owner Mohammed al-Fayed.

The revelation came as the daughter of former England footballer Paul Gascoigne said she was attacked by the late Egyptian billionaire when she worked in the shop as a teenager, but was threatened into speaking out.

Fayed has been accused of raping and sexually harassing dozens of women, drawing comparisons to high-profile sex offenders such as Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and US financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The slew of allegations came to light in a BBC documentary broadcast last month.

Harrods, which is under new ownership, said in a statement: “Since 2023, Harrods has settled a number of claims with women alleging that Fayed had committed historical sexual misconduct.

“Since the documentary aired, more than 250 individuals are now in the Harrods process to settle claims directly with the company.”
