Do relationships with age differences work?

A 35-year-old lady wrote to Muthoni for advice on whether it was okay to date a 24-year-old man.

“Age is not just a number. When you date a man who is much younger than you, you will automatically find that as a woman you lean towards your masculine side. You are the one who arranges dates, the one who advises him, the one who takes over. You take initiative and take the lead role in your relationship. Then you present this man and you feel bad about yourself,” she said.

The mother of one of them believed that the lady’s decision has consequences and outlined the reasons why such a relationship cannot work.

“When you date a younger man, your maternal instincts are triggered. You automatically start raising this man. You start acting like his mother, and that’s just nature,” she said.

Muthoni told that the man is not mature enough to be in a relationship.

“If you are looking for a relationship with a future, for example you want to settle down, have children… This man could be wasting your time,” she explained.
