Cape Town City FC striker Jody Ah Shene challenges himself to set a new record of 30 goals in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) and win the Golden Boot Award.

As things stand, Orlando Pirates forward Boitumelo Radiopane holds the record with 25 goals during the 2021-2022 season. Since that season, no player has scored more than twenty goals in a single season.

The 19-year-old was the leading goalscorer until the end of the season, where he spent most of his time with the first team before being dethroned by SuperSport United’s Thabang Mahlangu, who scored a hat-trick in the penultimate match of the season. to strike the gong.

He has already found the back of the net twice this season. He has also made a huge contribution at first team level.

“There’s always room for improvement in this game. You can’t say you did a good job and you’re happy you stayed in one place,” said the soft-spoken Ah Shene.

“So far this season I have been juggling the first team and the Diski Challenge and I have set myself a target of 30 goals in the Diski and five or more at first team level.”

“I want to go for the record.”

Ah Shene’s star has risen every match, and he has also made positive contributions at national team level. He was part of the team that won the Cosafa Cup in Mozambique last month and helped SA qualify for the Junior Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in five years.

At Cosafa he scored goals // to become the top scorer of the tournament.

His goal at national team level is to finish in the top four at Afcon next year and qualify for the World Cup.

He added: “Cosafa is now a thing of the past, we are focusing on the future. It’s always great to represent the national team, and I want to do it with distinction.”
