China confirms deal to end border standoff in eastern Ladakh

Beijing:

China confirmed on Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with India to end the standoff between the two militaries in eastern Ladakh.

“In recent times, China and India have been in close communication through diplomatic and military channels on issues related to the China-India border,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told a press conference here.

“Now the two sides have reached a solution on the relevant issues that China speaks highly of,” he said.

In the future, China will work with India to implement these resolutions, he said.

However, he did not want to provide details.

About the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, he said: “We will keep you informed if anything happens.” India on Monday announced that it has reached an agreement with China on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, marking a major breakthrough in ending the over four-year military standoff between the two militaries .

Ties between the two Asian giants have fallen significantly after the fierce Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, which marked the most serious military conflict between the two sides in decades.
