Urmila Matondkar, who married Mohsin Akhtar Mir had publicly expressed her anger at the persisters in March 2016 trolls directed against Mohsin and his family. The actress-turned-politician revealed the emotional impact of these online attacks and shed light on the severe harassment they faced as a result of their interfaith marriage.
In an interview with Mojo Story, Urmila talked about how Mohsin has been subjected to derogatory labels, including being called a “terrorist” and a “Pakistani.” Stressing that there is a limit to what can be tolerated, she said: “I mean, there is a limit to where it should go… They even infiltrated my Wikipedia page and they went and took my mother’s name Rukhsana Ahmed and my father’s name as Shivinder Singh, two people who must live somewhere in India, but I don’t know.
Urmila further added, “To top it all off, my husband is not only a Muslim but also a Kashmiri Muslim. We both follow our religions equally faithfully. That gave them a bigger platform to troll me and continually attack him and his family. It was very unfortunate,” she added.
News about Urmila Matondkar about a month ago parting by Mohsin Akhtar Mir showed up and shocked fans. According to a source from a Mumbai court, the actress filed for divorce around four months ago. The source told ETimes, “Urmila filed for divorce about four months ago.” Another report from Hindustan Times indicated that the divorce is not mutual. An anonymous source revealed, “After careful consideration, Urmila has decided to end her marriage with Mohsin. She has already filed for divorce in court. Although the reason behind the divorce is still unknown, the divorce is not on mutual terms.”
