Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters on a conference call on Monday, a day after the San Francisco 49ers’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs that left the team at 3-4 on the season. Along with the loss, the 49ers took a significant roster hit, losing wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season. Reports indicated that Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL and ACL, with possible additional damage, indicating a long and challenging recovery.

Shanahan confirmed Aiyuk’s season-ending knee injury, but noted he had no details yet on further damage beyond the torn ACL and MCL.

“I talked to him last night, I just called him at his house,” Shanahan said. “I didn’t see him today, but he was hurt and just disappointed, just as you would expect. But BA is a strong guy and a spiritual guy, and believes everything happens for a reason, so he’ll be fine. ” .

“But definitely a bit down last night. And I just told him how bad I felt for him, and just let him know that we’re all here for him because of this.”

Deebo Samuel in the hospital

Shanahan also provided an update on wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who played just a few snaps Sunday before being sidelined due to illness. His situation is worse than initially thought, and his status for this weekend’s game against the Dallas Cowboys remains unclear.

“Deebo Samuel, he had some strange illness, some fluid in his lungs, so technically pneumonia,” Shanahan said. “…He is still in hospital and we will see how he recovers here in the coming days.”

Shanahan added that Samuel went to the hospital Sunday night after the game.

“It started happening in the middle of the night, Saturday night or early Sunday morning, and then it evolved as the day went on,” Shanahan explained. “So when we found out after the game that he had fluid in his lungs and everything, I believe they sent him there. I’m not sure what the timeline is on it, but I just found out he was there on Sunday .” evening when I was home.”

Other playing injuries

Regarding other injuries during the game, Shanahan noted that wide receiver Chris Conley is day-to-day with an ankle sprain and George Kittle is day-to-day with a foot sprain.

Updates from McCaffrey, Greenlaw and Moody

Shanahan also provided updates on other injured players, including running back Christian McCaffrey.

“Christian continues to make progress in his rehabilitation,” Shanahan said. “He hasn’t had any setbacks, so it’s all good news so far. I’d be surprised if I got him back this week, but hopefully the bye week goes well and he has a much better chance there.” immediately after the bye week.”

Shanahan added that linebacker Dre Greenlaw’s return is still a few weeks away, saying, “Everything is still going well, but there’s no time right now.”

As for kicker Jake Moody, the 49ers don’t expect him to return from his high ankle sprain until sometime after the bye week at the earliest. Shanahan said, “We’ll have to wait until then to see how it responds.”
